Preparing for the Workplace to Launch in Sept 2015

The Preparing for the Workplace programme is designed to assist people with autism to access the workplace once they have completed their studies or training course. The programme will be launched in September and was developed by Shine in association with Aspect (AS Outreach Service in Cork) and is generously funded by BNY Mellon in Cork. The programme was developed over an 18 month period utilizing focus groups, interviews and training and instructional sessions with persons with autism who are attending Third Level courses and those who are currently trying to access the workplace.

As a result of the honesty and feedback of the participants the programme team identified the issues that can arise pre, during and post interview and have put together a “toolbox” of highly visual informational guides on how to prepare effectively for an interview or placement. The Preparing for the Workplace Programme will launch in September 2015 in association with the Disability Office in University College Cork and a toolkit with Trainer resources will be made available to 60 Third Level Institutions and Training Centres who cater for students with autism.
