Anxiety & Autism: 

This presentation will examine anxiety and autism and how it manifests, the individual nature of anxiety presentation and will also examine why people with a diagnosis of autism can be more prone to experiencing anxiety. Tactics and strategies which may assist your child in combating their anxiety will also be explored.

Please be advised, the information provided in this presentation is aimed at understanding anxiety and it’s presentation. The tactics and strategies may be helpful to all experiencing anxiety but will be more generally aimed at those experiencing non clinical/mild levels of anxiety.


About Laura Crowley: 

Laura Crowley holds a Master’s Degree in Education and a Degree in Early Childhood Education from University College Cork and is the Programme Manager for the PALS (Personal & Life Skills) & Building Blocks Programmes at the Shine Centre. Laura has over 18 years’ experience working with children and adolescents on the Autism Spectrum. In 2009, Laura designed and co-ordinated the PALS (personal and life skills) Programme for the Shine Centre, the first of its kind in this country. The Programme specialises in teaching social skills from a ground-up approach, mindful of barriers that may impede advancement. The PALS programme has also been developed into a free app format with over 150,000 users worldwide. Laura also lectures on the Autism Studies Programme in UCC and heads up the Connect Autism Consultancy in Cork.
