Dealing with the challenges of everyday life can be stressful for many parents.  A lot of the stress we experience is driven by our thoughts and beliefs, because the way we think directly affects the way we feel. Compromised coping, low mood, exhaustion and irritability can all be factors of ongoing stress. This course offers an opportunity to re-think how you deal with stress and look at ways that you can better manage your stress levels and increase your sense of wellbeing.

Re-thinking Stress:

Dealing with the challenges of everyday life can be stressful for many parents. A lot of the stress we experience is driven by our thoughts and beliefs, because the way we think directly affects the way we feel. As a result, compromised coping, low mood, exhaustion and irritability can all be factors of dealing with ongoing stress. This is an opportunity for parents to focus on their own needs for a couple of hours and to re-think how you deal with stress and look at ways that you can better manage your stress levels and increase your sense of wellbeing.

 

The Re-thinking stress evening will cover:

    • What is stress?
    • How you respond to stress now?
    • Why beliefs and coping styles matter.
    • Acceptance and the process of change.
    • Thinking and responding differently to stressful situations..
    • Building resilience.

    A really important part of these sessions will be listening to parents by creating a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space where they can talk openly about their lived experiences.

    Format:            One evening from 7.30pm to 9pm

    Duration:         1.5 hours.

    Venue:              The Shine Centre, Carrigaline, Co Cork

    Time:                7.30pm

    Cost:                  €20 per place.

Ellu Cooney:

Ellu is the Family Support Officer and parent coach at Shine and has over 10 years experience of working with autistic children and their parents. Ellu is passionate about the wellbeing of parents and the ongoing development of their strengths and coping skills to create the best possible outcome for the whole family. She has previously worked as a Class Teacher in the Shine Early Learning Unit and presents the Parent Wellbeing module in the Understanding Autism – Parent Programme. Ellu holds a BSc in Psychology and a Masters in Positive Psychology & Coaching from University College Cork and is a member of the Association for Coaching (AC).

Kieran McAuliffe:

Kieran has a particular interest in parent wellness and resilience and the use of coaching and coaching psychology to build enhanced coping and thinking skills.  Kieran is the General Manager of the Shine Centre and has worked in the disability sector for over 10 years. He studied in University College Cork and holds a Masters in Coaching and a Higher Diploma in Coaching Psychology. Kieran also completed a Post Grad Diploma in Personal & Management Coaching in UCC and Change Management and Leadership programmes with the IMI. Kieran is a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and the International Association for Coaching (AC).
